California is home to 1.1 million EVs, the largest concentration of EVs in the nation. Starting in 2035, all new cars and passenger trucks sold in California are required to be zero-emissions. Many local agencies and local companies are working to transition to electric fleets under SDG&amp;E\u2019s Power Your Drive for Fleets program, which provides infrastructure support. In addition to Cajon Valley, SDG&amp;E is also working with San Diego Unified and Ramona Unified School Districts on V2G projects.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarpowerworldonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/nuvve-electric-vehicle-bidirectional.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-99446\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarpowerworldonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/nuvve-electric-vehicle-bidirectional-500x325.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarpowerworldonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/nuvve-electric-vehicle-bidirectional-500x325.jpeg 500w, https:\/\/www.solarpowerworldonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/nuvve-electric-vehicle-bidirectional-368x238.jpeg 368w, https:\/\/www.solarpowerworldonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/nuvve-electric-vehicle-bidirectional.jpeg 770w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a>\u201cPilots like these are critical to advancing industry knowledge and commercialization of new technologies that help create jobs and build a clean energy future,\u201d said Office of Technology Transitions Commercialization Executive Rima Oueid. \u201cI am thrilled to see this project go live less than three months after the DOE launched our V2X initiative, validating the value of public-private partnership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With the bidirectional chargers now in operation, Cajon Valley can participate in SDG&amp;E\u2019s new <a class=\"icon none\" href=\"https:\/\/cts.businesswire.com\/ct\/CT?id=smartlink&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sdge.com%2Femergency-load-reduction&amp;esheet=52792868&amp;newsitemid=20220726006137&amp;lan=en-US&amp;anchor=Emergency+Load+Reduction+Program+%28ELRP%29&amp;index=4&amp;md5=c5e11f050a1dee249781aae4b231b703\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Emergency Load Reduction Program (ELRP)<\/a>, which pays business customers $2\/kWh if they export energy to the grid or reduce energy use during grid emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe jumped at the opportunity to be part of this pilot project because of its potential to help us build a healthier community and better serve our students,\u201d said Assistant Superintendent Scott Buxbaum. \u201cIf we are able to reduce our energy and vehicle maintenance costs as a result of this project, it frees up more resources for our schools and students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>V2G technology works by allowing batteries onboard vehicles to charge up during the day when energy, particularly renewable energy such as solar is abundant. The batteries then discharge clean electricity back to the grid during peak hours or other periods of high demand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSchool buses are an excellent use case for V2G,\u201d said Nuvve Co-Founder, Chair and CEO Gregory Poilasne. \u201cThey hold larger batteries than standard vehicles and can spend peak solar hours parked and plugged into bi-directional chargers.
