{"id":98497,"date":"2022-05-09T12:20:24","date_gmt":"2022-05-09T16:20:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.solarpowerworldonline.com\/?p=98497"},"modified":"2022-05-09T12:27:26","modified_gmt":"2022-05-09T16:27:26","slug":"missouri-bill-would-cut-down-hoa-solar-restrictions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.solarpowerworldonline.com\/2022\/05\/missouri-bill-would-cut-down-hoa-solar-restrictions\/","title":{"rendered":"Missouri bill would cut down on HOA solar restrictions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Missouri legislature passed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.mo.gov\/22info\/BTS_Web\/Bill.aspx?SessionType=R&amp;BillID=71259638\">bill<\/a> that would cut down on HOA solar restrictions, exempt some solar installations from sales taxes and more.<\/p>\n<p>Renew Missouri applauded the passage of SB 745 as a significant win for solar in the Show-Me State and urged Gov. Mike Parson to sign the legislation as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>According to the organization, SB 745 didn&#8217;t start out as a pro-renewable bill. But, over the course of the 2022 legislative session, lawmakers added language that include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A prohibition on homeowner associations (HOAs) from banning solar in their covenants and restrictions;<\/li>\n<li>a sales and use tax exemption on solar equipment; and<\/li>\n<li>the creation of a task force that will commission a Value of Solar (VOS) study.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Executive director James Owen noted the importance of protecting homeowners in HOAs from onerous restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Renew Missouri, we receive more phone calls from homeowners who simply want to put un-invasive solar panels on their roofs and facing vague and ill-informed resistance,\u201d Owen noted. \u201cWe&#8217;ve deployed a lot of resources to work with HOAs and, failing that, filing lawsuits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now, Renew Missouri will be able to help HOAs craft the \u201creasonable restrictions\u201d required of the proposed changes to the statute.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are eternally grateful to Senator Eric Burlison and Representative Mike Haffner\u2019s leadership on solar access and property rights,\u201d Owen said. \u201cThey have exemplified how renewable energy has become a bipartisan issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>News item from Renew Missouri<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Missouri legislature passed a bill that would cut down on HOA solar restrictions, exempt some solar installations from sales taxes and more.
