He was getting older and he owned a mine in West Virginia, where I\u2019m from. He needed a way to have some income on the mine property now that all the resources had been depleted over the years, and so we started looking around and thought, well, there&#8217;s three-phase power that comes into the mine, it&#8217;s really flat because it was a strip mine, so it was really well-sited for solar. We thought that would be the highest and best use for the land.<\/p>\n<p>I had been working in brownfield cleanup and real estate and business before, and I wanted to use those skills and translate it into solar.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_98006\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-98006\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-98006 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarpowerworldonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/green-lantern-solar-500x325.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarpowerworldonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/green-lantern-solar-500x325.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.solarpowerworldonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/green-lantern-solar-368x238.jpg 368w, https:\/\/www.solarpowerworldonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/green-lantern-solar.jpg 770w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-98006\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Green Lantern&#8217;s project at Alburgh Missile Base.<\/p><\/div>\n<h3><strong>What&#8217;s been the most unique project your company has completed?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>We did an array in Benson, Vermont. It&#8217;s an elevated array, standard fixed-tilt, but the cows come and get shade under the array, so it reduces their heat stress. There&#8217;s no lost ground because the animals still use the area; it&#8217;s before they go into the barn, so it really works well and gives a stream of income to the farmer to hedge against milk price volatility.<\/p>\n<p>In Albert, Vermont, we did a project on a former ICBM missile base, the ones that you imagine with the Quonset huts and the blaring alarms and the missiles that were going to shoot across over to Europe and Asia during the Cold War. But we built our array right over the top of that infrastructure, so what used to be used to shoot missiles is now used to make solar power.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>That\u2019s a nice little homegrown Vermont peace-and-love story.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Right, it&#8217;s talking about beneficial reuse or dual-use. Make solar not missiles.<\/p>\n<p>And the town still uses the Quonset hut from the military installation for their sand and salt during the wintertime in their road crew operations.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What\u2019s preventing you from installing more projects?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>We share the same pain that really all the other industries do with the equilibrium-offset that&#8217;s happened in the global supply chain. I spoke with the CEO of a solar panel manufacturer who has plenty of product and it&#8217;s ready to go for our arrays, but they have no shipping containers.<\/p>\n[Suppliers] are talking about lead times that are 52 weeks, I\u2019m like, \u201cJust tell us it&#8217;s going to be a year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a long time \u2014 things that were maybe a month, maybe six weeks, before. It&#8217;s no fault of any of the suppliers, they&#8217;re doing the best they can. But none of us have experienced this before. So now we&#8217;ve got a tailing pandemic and layer war on.
