Gavin Newsom signed AB 2316, which requires large utilities to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarpowerworldonline.com\/2022\/08\/california-bill-requiring-utilities-to-create-community-solar-programs-reaches-governor\/\">create community renewable energy programs<\/a> that pair community solar with storage to help the state overcome clean energy access barriers. The law was supported by a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1LlmsSr-CPvIZas0V5f2AZNU6fbYxoaKA\/view\">diverse coalition<\/a> of supporters \u2014 including advocates for environmental justice, clean energy, ratepayers, home builders and commercial property owners.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\">California cities and counties now required to switch to instant, online residential solar permitting by 2024<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Sacramento, California\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sen. Scott Weiner&#8217;s bill to require <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarpowerworldonline.com\/2022\/09\/california-cities-and-counties-now-required-to-switch-to-instant-online-residential-solar-permitting-by-2024\/\">instant, online residential solar permitting<\/a> in large California cities and counties was signed by Gov. Newsom in September. This new law will require those entities to adopt NREL and UL&#8217;s automated permitting solution called SolarAPP+ or another instant solution by September 30, 2024.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CPUC expected to wait until after election to issue NEM 3.0 decision<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Sacramento, California<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The California Public Utilities Commission is expected to hold off on issuing its NEM 3.0 proposed decision until <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarpowerworldonline.com\/2022\/10\/cpuc-expected-to-wait-after-election-nem-decision\/\">after the November election<\/a>. The California Solar &amp; Storage Association previously thought the decision would come down by the end of September.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Report finds 1 in 10 of all K-12 schools have gone solar<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Washington, DC<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarpowerworldonline.com\/2022\/09\/report-finds-1-in-10-k-12-schools-have-gone-solar\/\">latest report<\/a> from Generation180 found 1 in 10 (9%) of all K-12 public and private schools in the United States have gone solar. The report found 87% of solar power installed at U.S. schools was funded through third-party PPA arrangements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Community solar groups partner with American Farmland Trust on sustainable development initiative<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Washington, DC<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The American Farmland Trust has partnered with Edelen Renewables and Arcadia on an initiative called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarpowerworldonline.com\/2022\/09\/community-solar-groups-american-farmland-trust-partnership\/\">Farmers Powering Communities<\/a> to combat climate change through sustainable solar energy development.
